Howdy fellow Cgners. I recently picked up a nice shotty as mentioned in the title in Modified over Improved Cylinder. I love the thing, light weight, beautifully finished with scrolling and a game scene on the receiver, very nice checkering. But alas, I can't seem to find much info about them on the inter web. Apparently they sold these with matching barrel sets as a smoothbore shotgun barrel over a rifle barrel? Anybody got any info on these? The trigger mechanism is also very interesting, with the the front trigger firing the top barrel only, and the rear trigger firing the bottom barrel and THEN the top barrel...

This is the set-up I have, a ZH 304. 7x57R/12ga. as well as a set of 12ga. OU barrels.

If you're interested in more info on them, contact gunbug on this site. He's who I've approached for info etc.

How accurate is the 7X57 on that combo? Looks like a great setup with the additional 12g.

In truth, I haven't done any load development or testing, other than reloading some ammo, and sighting in with that. I had never even been interested in a combo gun until stopping in for a visit and road hunt with my brother in law on the way up for a Moose hunt. On the ride, he stopped for a ditch chicken and at the shot, a two point Mule Deer broke from the bush near by. He dropped in a 7x57 cartridge and got that as well. Neat double, now I needed a combo gun.
From the few shells sighting in, accuracy seemed to be acceptable. Just the right medicine for those wet windy days on old logging roads in river bottem areas here on the wet coast where one could just as easily run into a Ruff Grouse as a Blacktail.

I have a ZH in .222/12 gauge combo. Really nice for coyotes if you aren't hunting large flatlands. Drop in some buck shot for the "close encounters" or let fly with the .222 if further way.

Well I'll tell you I have 2 ,300 series BRNO guns. The first one I bought brand new a decade ago is a very rare 22hornet/12ga combo. It is one of the most accurate Hornets I have ever shot or owned, the 12 gauge barrel is full or close to improved/modified, this I use very successfully on ruffed grouse here in dense bush. The triggers are double in configuration , with an set trigger for the rifle wich is set when pushed forward (quite light set!).
I then purchased a older set of 30" 12/12 shotgun barrels wich fit even though they were built 20 years apart! This year I also bought a 300 series 12/12ga with 27" barrels full/modied that was made in 1972 like new and will interchange with all other barrels from 3 different era's!
Built like a tank,I have a period Ziess/BRNO scope/mount on the hornet/12ga, looks real AWSOME and works great:)
I think they have been making these 300 series since the 1960's early 70's.

Cheers Dale Z

PS: also have a BRNO 502 series 308win/12ga , much more sleak and very deadly accurate! Not as robust as the 300 series I must say?
