Brobee's 2024 Rimfire EIA Challenge

I think the difference is while using iron sights you cannot see your wandering as much therefore I will settle for a shot you felt was decent. With a scope I find myself trying for the 4 ring zone of the target more as I watch myself shaking through it, past it, back to it, past it. LOL

I know what you mean. I tried it on 12x but backed it down to 4x. Do you use a post or circle insert in your 457 front peep? I have an apeture Anschutz 64. But need to pick up a cuff arm sling.
I like (and use) the Anschutz old-school pointed post insert.

"felt was decent" - that is a good differentiator around the motivation to let the sear go, by comparison to something that "looks decent". Less focus on what it looks like and more focus on what it feels like. Interesting.

I like this challenge, as it's not all about the ammo. I know I was trying to get a comfortable hold with my Ruger, as it's shorter than what I normally use. Plus it's about 2.5# lighter, as the 1022 only weighs 5.7#.

Then was trying to slow down. I think my first attempt, I completed in just under 2 mins. Probably why I never really use this gun and most of my 22s are bolt and converted or single shots.

I would think that 25 rounds in ten minutes(as mentioned in the first post) wouldnt be that big of a consideration. Its 24 seconds per shot. Maybe its much harder than I think but Ive cleaned ten round KYL racks at fifty in 32 seconds in a match. ORPS has freehand targets at fifty that are 2" chickens and pigs at 75yards that are 4" Theses are shot freehand in two minutes with ten shots at each target. So four minutes total for twenty shots split between 10 at 50 and 10 at 75. That leaves 6 minutes for the remaining five, not what Id call under the gun! When the gate drops the BS stops. Just sayin. Oh and Im not sure if you own a cellphone but they have cool things like alarms and stopwatches,WOW.

Gonna give it another shot hopefully this week. Working on a Toz with peep sights and parts for my Mossberg should be here Monday.

UPDATE:

Have been shooting at least two ends almost every weekend with both my Iron sighted CZ457 and another 457 I’d set up with a red dot…scores have pretty consistently been in the low-to-mid 80s.

Then last week I got a new toy - a Bergara B14r HMR with a carbon fiber barrel. I set it up with a trijicon RCR on a plate I made in the garage, and got out to play with it for the first time today.

WOW! It was a lesson for me in how much good gun fit can advantage my standing unsupported shooting! Proper LOP adjustment, a bit more vertical rise between recoil pad and cheek so I’m not “hunching” so much into the rifle. Trigger hand more naturally vertical by comparison to tilted on a sporter stock. A little bit more mass, but balanced over the mag well. Elevated cheek piece so I’ve got good cheek well but am a bit more upright. All this together made it so much easier to find natural point of aim and the wobbly circles I’d draw while holding were so much smaller.

Marry all this with the greatly superior trigger of the B14 over the CZ and it was a recipe for step-change higher-performance for me! I made the mistake of checking things out through the spotting scope after each magazine, and gave myself some serious performance anxiety after the second mag was done - on the last string of 5 I threw 4 of them into the 3 zone.

The result was still my highest-ever score, and I think I can do better if I just relax a bit more and stay out of my own head.

Amazed at how much gun fit matters, and have new appreciation for how biathletes set up their guns for their prone strings.

Will get out again tomorrow to try again and see if it’s just a flash in the pan or really that-much-improved. Might have to change out my hunting gun for a similar centerfire version…;)

Hope your all having a great summer,

Brobee

I wish I lived closer and could fit my custom semi to your build. I know youd be blown away. A skilled shooter like you would go into superstar mode!! Any firearm is only as good as the operator and THE TRIGGER. With my vudoo youd be in real trouble financially haha

Went out today to test fire my Mossberg. Decided to try and target. Only scored a 70, my weaken arm said not today. But only had 3 x 1s.

I def do better with optics than irons. I tried my Toz with irons and holy glare.

Bumping this..

With hunting season apon us, It is harder to get alone time to try it again. Tried and was interrupted. Though the Boyds pro Varmint stock on the 10/22 felt much better than the one I had on it previously.
