Something bad happened tonight. I decided to ballistol the barrel inside and out to remove factory grease. Removal of the front sling stud is required to take the forend off.

After oiling and wiping everything, I screwed the front sling stud back in. And that’s when it happened… Tightening the stud felt loose and effortless so I thought there were still multiple threads to tighten. Then suddenly the wrench let go. The f[]{<€&@ sling stud bolt sheared off inside the gas block right at the base of the stud. The whole bolt is still in there - minus the stud.

Needless to say I’m super disappointed… not only in myself but in the engineering of the sling stud bolt. It seems super small gauged to be relied on for slinging the rifle around in the woods. I can’t believe how little force it took to shear off.

Anyone have experience/recommendations with this? I feel like the stud could be an integral part of helping hold the forearm on in high stress situations. Is there enough solid metal in the gas block at this location to have a more robust sling stud installed?
