Broke my mossberg 500 410 after two shots.

Bought it brand new

Fired two 2.5" slugs through it

The left extractor (the thin little sheet metal one) is missing and the action is locked up fully open

It's currently being warrantied.


Is this a known issue? Fluke ? Or something to do with the slugs? They were Winchester rifled slugs.

Winchester slugs are undersized typically. You may have been unlucky and got one that was seriously overcharged.

More than likely you just got a lemon 500. Mossberg is good but not great when it comes to quality control.

I'm curious what your shooting with slugs out of a 410? The 410 is not a common slug gun.

It's a perfectly common slug and they make lots of them. Perfect for coyote.

I take it your hunting coyotes in a centre fire prohibited area then? My bad..

Mossy have had some QC issues, I recall they also had problems with their 4X4 bolt action rifles.

We have no calibre limits on coyote as long as you shoot under a. 270 rifle. Shotguns are not limited. Plenty of close range deer have fallen to. 410 slugs too.
