broken mossberg 590 lifter - questions

Shotgun stopped working yesterday during a match, now I know why: the lifter broke.

So first, is there any common cause for this? Was I doing something wrong, or did it just break because it was time to break?

Second, before I start googling, any pointers to a place that will likely have a lifter in stock ready to ship? 590s are fairly common, so I have some hope for a quick replacement part.

I just happen to have an extra one, if you can not get one as quickly as you need, I can send you the spare, as long as it is replaced. To bad I didn't know yesterday, it was in my range bag, and you could of had it then at BWSA!

I broke mine, though not the same way, the roller pin snapped off. Mossberg sent me a replacement, but it took about 3 weeks. Came from the US free of charge under warranty.

Thanks! I just discovered the Mossberg Canadian service number, will call them on Monday and see what's up.

Didn't know the lifter / elevator was broken yesterday. Really no time to strip a shotgun during a match (or any good place to do it on range #5), and in any event a generous fellow shooter loaned me his shotgun to finish the match with.

Good video. I like the peanut gallery, "... this weather's definitely the test". And "go to your pistol". If I had taken that advice on those thin little steels BWSA would have put my picture up on the 'wanted' board.

My first thought was that I had missed resizing a round - this batch of hulls must have been first-fired in a loose chamber, and if not resized would stick about one time out of four.

As we now know, not the weather, not the resizing, not even the spanking, just good old fashioned metal failure.

Mossberg's Canadian rep says I'll have the elevator tomorrow or early next week. No warranty as I am the second owner (honesty does not pay), but it's a cheap part.

Part came in, fits and works (at least with dummies) just fine.

Quick service from Grech Outdoors. $40 to my door.... I could have paid less ordering through the states but wait times would have been two-three weeks.

You could take that to a smith and get them to weld it couldn't you ?
