Had a case head come off at the range today and now there is a 2/3 of a cartridge case stuck in the chamber of my CSA Carbine. Needless to say I'm right pissed and happy I didn't sell my 858.

So, where to I purchase a 7.62x39 broken shell extractor in Canada or, failing that, get this thing running again?

Any help is welcome, I got to get this running by May Long Weekend (Woo, Fighting Rifle!)

Nick

Where are you in AB? No idea where to get a broken shell extractor but you can try a tight fitting bore brush from the muzzle.

Place a jag on the end of you cleaning rod, drop the rod from the muzzle against the neck of the case, you may need to do this repeatedly. In the event that the case still wont budge you may have to tap (lightly) with a hammer on the rod to free the stuck case. I have used this process before to free a stuck case in my SKS with success.

He has a front half of the shell stuck, I don't think you can do any thing with a cleaning rod from the muzzle, it will go right through.
I had this problem twice on my CZ 858, first time with brass shell.. I had to screw in a tap(threading tool) from the chamber side just 1/4 turn so it catches, then i inserted the cleaning rod from the muzzle and taped lightly against the tap... Shell came out easily .
But the second time it was a steel casing, and no matter what I did I couldn't pull it out,
I took it to gun smith at Elwood Epps, and they couldn't fix it either, so I ended up selling it as is for $300 .. :(

If you do decide to use the tap, be careful if you go to deep, you can damage the chamber.

Good luck.

Looks like I've got an extractor enroute from Fort McMurray (huge thank to millwright!). So now I play the waiting game, should probably use the right tool for the job rather than find out how bad I can pooch this rifle.

hey nick i was the guy at the range with you today haha with the fsn

We shall meet again, might have to have a bit o' friendly competition when your FSN gremlin gets sorted out.

Midway usa has a video on youtube on how to extract broken shells. There's a method that used a special metal with a very low melting point that you use to get it out. You plug the chamber end of the gun, and pour this stuff down the muzzle, it basically makes a positave mold of the stuck casing and you can tap it out with a wooden dowel.

yeah hopefully are you from HP? i thought i had it fixed worked fine at the house before i took it to the range but we will definately have to go shooting some time
