I tried to order a couple 1911 mags from Brownells and they wouldn't ship them. Cost was 40 bucks...Brownells brand. Something about a non-registered manufacturer. Anyone run into this before??

the company that makes the mags has to have an export lic if they dont they cant sell outside of the USA

Just got some Chip Mc 8 rounders from them this month. Maybe the brand you ordered didn't have the ITAR paperwork or whatever is needed for export.

That must be it. It was Brownells own brand so I figured it would be good. I wish they would say which ones are good for export before you buy. Thx

There is a category under "Special Filters" on the left side that you can select to show only products available outside the US...but their own brand of magazines is listed under it.

"...Brownells own brand so...would say which..." Brownell's is a reseller. They make nothing. What is exportable and not is on their site, but you have to ask.
"...approved for import..." Export. Chip McCormick can sell everything they make Stateside and don't care about exporting.

Ordered some Beretta .22 conversion kit magazines from them last week and they are en route now, just depends on the manufacturer. Like others have said the best bet is to call them, their customer service is excellent.

Chip McCormick isn't licenced to export their products. It takes extra paperwork to get them over the border. That said, there are Canadian dealers that carry their magazines.

I got my 2 chip 10 rd .45 mags straight from smith and Wesson. Less than $100 to my door.

So when did you do this? S&W hasn't shipped any gun parts to individual consumers in Canada since around October 2010. All they will ship is promotional items like hats, shirts, cups etc.
