My 15 year old SX3 is reaching the end of its life. Its actually not, it functions fine, its just the duratouch and camo is starting to become pretty white around the forend and stock due to a ridiculous amount of use over the last 15 years. This is the best gun I have ever purchased to date.

I almost feel guilty thinking about a new shotgun as I feel like I am cheating on her lol. The SX3 has seen me cheat three times with a A400, SBE2 and a Vinci, but she forgave me and quickly kicked the others out of the cabinet almost as fast as they entered.

My plan was to purchase either a new Maxus Tungsten wicked wing or A5 tungsten wicked wing, whichever felt better. Then I was floating around the internet and I noticed some catchy Silvers on the Browning website. I do like the duratouch so I may end up looking for an older model of both as I understand browning isn't putting the duratouch on the new model shotguns anymore.

I was just wondering what peoples experience with them?
 
I have had a Browning Silver Sporting Clays and a Browning Gold in 20gauge and while owning them for a short time the Browning Silver out preformed the Gold.
The 12 Silver would run all day long with trap loads and the gold would start to hang-up and require assist two thirds the way through a course of Sporting Clays.
Dont get me wrong the 20 ran well up till then, but the Silver ran all day long.
Cleaning for both was easy.
Fitment was typical Browning (good over all) and finish was great.
I dont know what kind of product review you might be looking for.
I buy em, I shootem and keep them for a bit till my attention is turned to something else.........oh look a squirrel.

The Silver is my favourite of the modern semi’s. Mine cycles anything I put through it. The stock dimensions work perfectly for me and I really like the raised rib and semi humpback receiver. Its a real soft shooting gun
 
I have the following Brownings & rate them

Maxus Golden Clay: sporting clays A , geese B (too pretty), upland B (too pretty & long barrel)
A5 Stalker: Sporting clays C (too light & whippy feeling). Geese B (recoil), Upland A+ (absolutely great, natural points to bird)
Silver Field Shad Grass Sporting clays ? Never tried, Geese A+ ( feels & works great my go to goose gun), upland B (it is ok but have better choices)

I really like the Silver for waterfowl. While it feels good in wet or dry weather don’t think it has any special coating. Thought dura touch went out many years ago. Never had any feeding or fail to fire issues with any of these guns
 
I have a Browning Silver Hunter 12 gauge, have had it for about 12 years, I have also had an A5 and a SX3. I admit the comment regarding the A5 being a touch light for clays may have some merit, I didn't find it objectionable but it was a noticeable increase. I parted with it when I was offered more than I paid for it. The SX3 same story offered more than I paid hard to say no.
I wouldn't sweat the lack or Duratouch, it certainly is anything but durable. I'd grab a Silver or take a closer look at the SX4 as well or hunt down a high condition used SX3 post duratouch. Winchester and Browning did have a recall for worn duratouch, don't know if it is still available. You could also look at hydro dipping it.
 
Why not just get another Winchester Super-X Model 3.I know they are no longer in production,but there are many of them for sale used in great condition.They show up quite often on the EE on this site.

The Winchester Super-X Model 4 is available and is pretty much the same gun as the SX3,with a few minor changes.Looked at a SX4 the other year on sale and almost bought it,but my SX3 works great and I saw no real reason to buy another duck gun.

Just something for you to think about.:)
 
I have a Browning Silver. I use it for waterfowl and turkey. Fits me perfectly, cycles anything and never misses a beat. If I had to buy another semi I definitely go with a Silver again. Good luck with your search.
 
Did you ever try to get a new stock set from browning. They replaced a ton of those free of charge early on or do a WTB listing on the EE since not everyone that got a free set used it
Some just stripped the old stocks and painted them

I was in contact with Winchester who put me in contact with their Canadian counterparts. They wont just ship me new stock/forend, but I have to ship the gun to them and they will ship to the US where they will likely strip them down and refinish them. But I have to wait until all the business open back up in a few weeks(or whenever business open back up). Turnaround is 6-8 weeks once they receive the gun.
 
My hunting partners SX3 has the grossest looking stock and forend you'll ever see from blood & mud covered hands being absorbed into the duratouch. They are a real red/brown colour soaked into the camo that makes the gun look disgusting but she's killed a god awful pile of birds and never fails to fire, eject or cycle. I have had two, a modb camo synthetic 12 and my current one a 20ga with matte finish and wood furniture. Neither have ever had so much as a hiccup. Best autoloader on the market today imo.
 
I hear some people have sprayed their duratouch guns with a matte clear spray paint to resolve or prevent the issues with duratouch. Anyone here try doing this that can report on its longevity?

I hydrodipped a second stock for my Mossberg and the dip kit came with a matte clear spray as the final step in the process. Once I sprayed the clear on, the newly dipped stock had the same finish as the factory stocks. Spraying clear over the duratouch will obviously negate the duratouch features, but I would think it will at least prevent the stock from getting sticky and discoloured
