Serial number is five digits under "5V". Appears to be 98% condition. Vent rib. I am looking for some idea of value in Canada. My ten year old Blue Book has it at $1,200.00. No marks in bluing or on stock. Can someone assist with approximate value? Has a Browning recoil pad. Would it have come from the factory that way? Thanks, Dave

From the guns I have seen for sale and those that have sold, a super clean, often in the factory box Auto 5 12 gauge magnum (Belgian) struggle to reach 1000.00. Most in the condition yours sounds like it is go for around 650.00 to 700.00 on a good day. The pad on yours will be factory. The market for Auto 5's has really suffered the last 10 years or so. IF it was a Magnum 20 or a Sweet 16 the values go up but alas it is not. Still a meticulously well built shotgun that will last for ever with care. I have read that to build one today the cost of a Auto 5 would be several thousand dollars.

Belgium made Brownings are a sweet number.
Not suitable for steel shot even if the choke was opened up.
This is according to Browning themselves.
They mentioned the Japanese made barrels were a better bet.

Sold one last year for around the $750 mark.
It too was ne'ear flawless.
There are buyers out there, just need to do the meet thing.

I can never find the guys to pay 750$ I have them sitting on the rack at the store for $450/550 and they sit . Even at those prices at guns shows out west they don’t sell

Its a shame the browning Auto 5 is one fine firearm. Nothing compares to it for semi-auto shotguns. The issues which hold it back are the lack of current available parts, the inability to shoot steel out of the older Belgian Barrels, and the watchmaker level disassembly and reassembly required for a full cleaning. Still I have a light twelve and its a fantastic little firearm. Was easily worth the $500 I paid for it, plus roughly the same for an invector & slug barrel and chokes. I am surprised that these shotguns are so inexpensive whereas the new models from Browning are over $2k and not as nice.
