I have a chance to buy a BNIB browning .223 WSSM, synthetic stock , blued barrel. But neither I nor the owner , has any idea of a price.
Also what is this cal good for?

Thanks

I'd look around for brass. Might give you a better idea of what you are into if you bought it.

Myself, I would pass on it and buy a 22/250. Apply the KISS approach.

Right on :) I'm a .223 kinda guy and have a new MV on the way. Just that the browning looked so pretty, and those cartridges looked bad azz. But I'll pass, unless it's a super deal:)

If your into wildcating and rolling your own. It would be a good cal. It wouldnt be something you take and plink with.

in Oz, it would be worth about a Buck.... nobody wants them here and they don't sell at all... a lot of blokes have "keepers", because they cant get rid of em for a Buck

buy a 223, or 22-250

Why is that? It looks like it can pack a good wallop.
I already have a .223 on order , but if the price is right I might have to buy the wssm...

Barrel life is shorter than a Politician's memory........From the 6th Edition Hornady manual ."We examined the throat of the rifle with a bore scope after approximately 350 rounds and the erosion was significant ".......Harold

I was going to say it would be a real barrel burner, I have seen ammo for this at Cabelas but really the performance compared to cost just not worth it

yep I agree with the above feeding issues with such stubby fat case,... but You see we have big issues with availability of items like Brass, and Factory Ammo to begin with, once things get a bit 'in the too hard basket' it falls off the way side pretty quick.

theres a few WSSMs on second hand firearm websites that have been there for a long time, and the price does get lowered every few months until its almost a "steal" if it were a .223r or .22-250 etc.

so my post is kind of a Moot point for you guys, just thought it might encourage you not to bother with ha ha! I did realise after I had posted that You possibly have more Factory options and Brass isn't so hard to gather.

But Hornady failed to mention that factory Browning 223 WSSM barrels are chromed unlike their test barrel.

Barrel life should be similar to most of the high performance .22 centrefires such as the 220 Swift and .22-250 Remington as long as you aren't shooting continously until the barrel turns red.

The A-bolt with it's 1 in 9 twist will also handle heavier - higher BC - bullets than most factory 22-250 rifles and would make an great long-range coyote/wolf rifle.

350 rnds huh, I'd use that in a day.
Ya,I'll pass.

Any rifle in 223 WSSM will be a hunting rifle not a target gun. Sitting at the bench killing paper would be more suited to the .222 or .223.

Shooting 350 rounds a day also is more suited to a .22 rimfire or SKS with surplus ammo than most centrefire cartridges. At over 2 dollars a pop 350 223 WSSM cartridges would cost as much as the rifle.
