I was recently given a Browning BLR 81 .308. The gun was only fired one time, by the previous owner and I have never shot. It also has a Tasco scope on it. It is in great condition, and looks like new. My question is, can anyone tell me what this gun is worth. Or direct me to someone that can help. I am thinking about selling it, once it is registered. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Gunnutz,

This gun should go for between $600 and $700 (a new one starts at around around $800 and can go as high as $950 + Tax). The Tasco scope adds very little value to the gun.

It would also be useful to know if the receiver is steel or aluminum alloy and the approx year of manufacture (Steel before 1985 and Aluminum for the new released version).

I bought that exact gun for $550 NIB about 4 years ago. To some purist they perfer the older 81 steel reciever over the new style aluminum

The odd thing was it was $50 cheaper than what a identical used one on the rack was . Go figure. Was a no brainer to buy the new one !
