I acquired a like new unfired A-500R from a relative as my first shotgun, and its a beautifal looking machine but I cannot seem to find much information on it.

I was planning on purchasing a Benelli Nova or a 870 pump, but this came in my direction. Should I still go out and purchase a pump for a reliable rabbit gun, or will this thing do it.

Browning A-500R: Good/Bad/Reliable?

I'm sure it'll do quite well. That is the recoil version of the gun; there was also a gas operated version the 500G. They weren't produced for long, but since you've got a brand new gun, go ahead and use it! You will love that Browning, I'm sure. That's a great first shotgun, btw.

Appreciate the feedback guys,
I kinda thought it was designed as more of a sporting gun
then a hunting gun because of the really shiny finish on it.
I'll give her a go this weekend out in rabbit country.

tks

The 500R's had a better track record than the 500G's they operate on a "short" recoil system and work very well. They do have very high ribs that give them a distinctive look.

cheers Darryl
