Anybody have real life experience with Browning A-Bolt .22's? Most of what I have been hearing is they are well built rifles with really nice wood that don't shoot that well.

Would appreciate hearing from any "experienced" Browning shooters.

Thanks!

Haven't tried one, I have always heard that they are inconsistent. One gun will shoot great, the next poorly. Try asking on Rimfire Central. Should get lots of actual owners.
They are such a nice looking gun, for the right price I'd try one.

I have a centrefire and it's accurate as hell

+1, and I've seen 4 other's in different calibre's that were very accurate, sorry though non in .22. Unless that calibre is an oddity I would assume they must all be about the same. Could it be the ammo? My 10-22 will shoot ragged holes with some ammo and sprays some others!!

My experience with one was that it is a nice rifle to look at~~ didn't shoot worth #### tho!! tried everything including recrowning & all kinds of ammo freom Eley Tenez to bulk feds & even dynapoints~~ when I want hit something I grab the CZ 452

A Bolt 22

I have had three of these all were great hunting rifles but not target guns. The problem with these guns is that most(at least the ones I owned)were made with .224 diameter barrels meaning the bullet has some space to move as it travels down the rifling. I have taken a few and had everything including recrowning done to them and they still did not shoot like I hoped:( ......I'm with boss-hog2 on this one, as I owned a CZ Varmint that could shoot flies at 50yrds:D

My father's got a set, they are pretty nice looking rifle. I love the size of the action and the feel of the bolt... I've shot the regular one a few time. It seems ok. But then again, I wasn't shooting in a benchrest match... I was plinking at empty shotgun hulls :p

I still like my 52 better, but if the price is right, I would buy one.

Michel.

A Bolt

A friend of mine bot one years ago instead of a Brno (CZ 452). He was seduced by the beautiful wood, gold-plated trigger, extremely smooth action and the glass like finish metal on the barrel. The Brno looked rough and crude by comparison. He put a target scope on it but it wouldn't shoot groups better than 4-5 inches at 50 yards. He lent it to me to see if I could get it to shoot. I had it for a year and tried everything I could think of except putting on a new barrel. It was a heartbreaker. So beautiful, yet such a lousy shooter. Eventually it was sold and replaced by a Anschutz single shot. I installed the scope on the Anschutz and sighted it in. The first 3 shots my friend shot through the Anschutz fit inside a dime at 50m. He was happy. Very, very happy. We shot a couple hundred gophers for the rest of the day with a success rate of maybe +90 percent. I would only buy the Browning if I got it really cheap and I was prepared to spend the money to rebarrel it etc. But why bother? A new Brno is relatively cheap.

The Browning A-Bolt .22 I owned for many years was very accurate. I have since sold it for a very good price. A-Bolt 22's are hit and miss (no pun intended) when it comes to accuracy. If you can, try before you buy.
