Hi gang, wondering about using the Stainless A-Bolt receiver(7mm RM) vs the Blued Savage 111 Magnum receiver (300WM) for a custom build. Are they really that far apart as far as gun smithing work goes ??

I know that some Browning's have been used in the past, but it appears not nearly as much as the Savages. Is it just because the Savages are so much cheaper alone ? Are they every bit as good as some of the more expensive, more commonly used actions out there ?

Are there inherent reasons / problems that usually arise when working with the Browning actions ?

Any first hand experience with similar common problems from any of you smiths who've attempted a build using a Browning ?

Much Thanks in advance guys !!....Cheers...Kevin

FYI...the build will be a 6.5 Extreme (( ICLUND1946's baby !!! ))

I wouldnt use a Browning Action and based this on one shared experience on CGN.
There was a member selling parts from a Browning A-bolt within the last 18 months that the action was twisted and thus damaged beyond repair.
I do not recall all the details, but would chalk it up to in-experienced gorilla attempting a home barrel swap or a gunsmith who thought he knew what he was doing.
The pictures spoke a thousand words....
Go with Savage or Remington , hell go with Remington over the Savage or the Browning there are plenty of guys who work on Remington.

I was trying to find a trigger for my abolt and the best I could do was replacing the spring. I think it was a Timney spring kit and the weight would have been three pounds. I haven't looked for a stock or rail to go on one.

Personally, I would go with the savage if I had the choice of the two and I don't particularly like savages.

If my only options for an action were an A-bolt or a Savage I would drive down the road and jump off the bridge.
