Browning Auto 22

My Dad just passed away and I will be getting this old 22 since I am the only one with my firearms licence. Its old but I need to find out how old.

If anyone is able to contact me so I can send a pic once I have it and can document it, and could figure out its value (not that I will ever sell it) Mostly because I am curious. It was given to him from a dear family friend when I was a young boy. Also so I can get it to a smith and see if it needs anything before I take it out to shoot.

It has no engravings of pictures its plain jane and does not load from a hole in the side its in the stock just behind the action but it does have a spring loaded rod in the back.

I believe its belgian made for browning.


So if anyone who is a little bit of an expert on these guys and could help me out it would be appreciated.
 
I'd recommend not learning how much it's worth, if you do and find out it is worth a bit you'll be tempted to sell it. Well I would be tempted if it was worth something. Just a thought though.
 
The Belgian-made ones are quite nice. The Grade I, as you describe it, is not rare or terribly expensive, though it is worth more than a basic .22. The Grade I sells for about $600 new, but the Japanese-made current models are not as nice as the older Belgian-made ones.

I would also suggest hanging on to it for a while.

I have 3 of these little auto loaders 2 are marked Browning Arms Company.
One is in 22 short the other 22lr.
The 3rd one is as you describe plain receiver no engravings & loads top of stock behind the receiver. It has thin forearm and is marked Fabrique National D'Armes ( FN ) Browning's Patent.
All three are Belgian .
 
Thanks for the info! It's been in the family unfired by us for many years!
I will not sell it no matter what it is worth, it holds more value to me than any price tag and
It is my first 22 and I hope my 5month old daughter will get to use it for years once she is old enough!

It'd cost you anywhere upwards from about $200 to buy a used one.$350-450 in decent shape, and near new prices if it's really nice.

They are great little guns for a walk in the woods, and feel good in the hand, for sure.

When cleaning it, watch for the little piece that sits in the receiver above (under, when you have it on the table)the bolt, which acts as an interrupter for the ammo in the tube magazine. It is easy to lose, if you take the bolt out while the bolt faces down, and easy to miss when reassembling the rifle.
Other than that, they are a very straightforward piece.
