Just picked one up this weekend in 30-06. It's a beautiful rifle and shows little evidence of being fired and I can't wait to put some rounds through it.
Can anyone tell me the twist rate in these and what ammo weight would be most accurate. And I could do with a manual for it also...any ideas where I might get one.
Opinions, good or bad, on these rifles would also be appreciated.

Is it the octagonal barrelled one? I have one and it really likes Nosler 168 gr. BT HP match bullets. I recently tried some Berger bullets in it (same bullet weight) and it really liked them. I will see if I can dig up my manual. If I do, I can send a photocopy of it.

Yes on the octagonal barrel and no on the reloading, I will just be buying of the shelf for now.

Whatguns? ….congratulations on buying a Browning B78. My old .243 Win 26” round barrelled B78 High Wall’s trigger initially had a little bit of free play, followed by a noticeable creep during which there was an annoying build up of tension before the hammer finally dropped. I was not content to consciously feel and think through the various stages of the trigger's movement. Hence, I sort the services of a competent / knowledgeable Gunsmith who, after some fiddling & filing etc has lightened the trigger down to about two pound, minus the creep and progressive tension. Absolutely fantastic !

Also, unlike the contemporary 1885 model, the B78's barrel is not floated. Another easy fix - unscrew the forearm and carefully sand down the channel. When you're happy with the clearance, seal the sanded channel and add a thin flat metal spacer to each screw - between the channel and the forearm's hanger.

In short, a magnificent rifle, beautifully designed and constructed - with the mentioned minor modifications it is now such a pleasure to shoot. Happy hunting !
