Browning BAR 338 win mag magazine OAL

Hey all,

I'm taking my first run at working up a load for a new to me Browning BAR in 338 win mag.

The quick question - does anyone know the OAL required to fit the magazine? The barnes data I'm using cites a cartridge OAL of 3.320. I'm just checking in to see if that will work in the mag.

Sidebar question - crimp or no crimp?

Departing question - anyone got any pet loads that combine Barnes 225 TSX with 4350? (I'm aware of start at min and work way up/every gun is different - I'm just curious about others results)

My first choice would be to measure the mag and see. Do you not have the gun in hand to do this?

My Hornady manual also lists loads at 3.340" and 3.320", so I would expect that to work in anything.

Regarding crimping, I don't do it for any bolt actions, so there shouldn't be a reason to do it for a BAR. If it was tube fed that would be a different matter, but all box mags should be fine without a crimp.
