Browning has a new BAR out this year. 18 inch barrel. 308. 6lbs 10 ounces. Synthetic Stock. Detachable Box Magazine(10 rounds in USA).

Similar to FNAR but waaaaay lighter.

Seems to me this might be a nice woods rifle?

Havent seen any dealers with them yet?
 
If it's a centerfire semi-auto and the barrel is less than 18.5" it would fall into the restricted category unless ralph OICs an exemption for it.
How much yah wanna bet that's gonna happen?
Maybe if they perceive sufficient demand browning will make a 19" bbl canadian model.
 
My local gun shop informed me all Canadian orders for the Browning BAR DBM were cancelled by Browning. As you mentioned it probably has something to do with the 18" barrel.

Disappointing, but not unexpected. Cut it to 16, and make it an acera straight pull, sure they would only sell 2 or 3, but I would consider one.
 
It looks like the DBM is a stand alone item, it might be possible to buy the magazine parts and add them to a MK3 Stalker short action which has a 22" barrel.
Pricy I'm sure but might be possible?
