I'm looking into geting a new gun for the upcoming moose season here in newfoundland. I am looking at two. Remington model 700 CDL or CDL SF, and the Browning BAR Safari. Both would be in 30-06. I love the look and feel of them both., but have never actually shot a semi-auto rifle. I know the BAR is supposed to be top of the line, but I am needing more info on this firearm.

Replies and comments needed. Dependablility? accuracy? etc...thank you.

I previously owned a BAR Mark II in 7mmremmag.The gun worked flawlessly at the range, but despite proper cleaning and maintenance,it jammed twice in cold wet weather. The first time was when I shot a deer, that didn't require a follow up shot,so no harm was done. The second time was when a friend who bought the gun from me was moose hunting. He hit a branch with the first shot, and when he went to fire the second shot, the gun was jammed.By the time he cleared the jam,the moose was gone.
As far as the BOSS is concerned,I have owned one BOSS equipped rifle, and I will never own another. It was accurate, but no more accurate than my other rifles with out the BOSS.It also kept coming loose, which changed the point of impact. With the standard BOSS the brake makes it so loud that my ears rang for an hour after one shot without hearing protection.Luckily for me,successive hearing tests showed no permanent hearing loss.Lastly, the barrels on BOSS equipped rifles are shorter than those on non BOSS equipped rifles,so the 30-06 with BOSS will actually produce 308win velocities without the BOSS.
