I'm looking for opinions on a rifle I just acquired.

It's a 1983 Browning BBR in .338 Win Mag. I gather from 'Bolt Action Rifles' by deHaas that it is the Lightning version(lighter weight).

It's got a number of features that are ok such as the adjustable trigger but other features that I'm not to sure about such as the detachable magazine system.

One thing I don't like is the tiniest extractor I've ever seen on a rifle.

I got this rifle free and as soon as I get a new stock on it I'll see how it shoots.

Keep this gun....

I believe the lightining designation was given to the magnum calibers of the rifle.

I myself own the BBR is 300 Win Mag.

I have put about 200+ shots thru it at the bench and at animals.

It is nice light, not too bad on recoil (personal opinion), etc.

The detachable mag is ok too. It is still on a hinge plate but at least your ammo does not hit the ground when you want to empty the gun.

My best 3 shot groups with my BBR are about 1/2" with cheap wal-mart 180 grain ammo.

Anyhow, again... KEEP THIS GUN....

....

Oh, and the bolt is one of the strongest out there and it's only a 60 degree lift to boot.

Also make sure when you change the stock to free float the bbl. It was a free floater from factory.

Here is my BBR.

P.S.

If you don't want it. I would probably buy it from you.

I have a .338 (Remington) but would like to complete the BBR magnum 'family'

Cheers,

Alex :D

Gee, with all those comments I'm sure Mauser98 is really considering selling it...

Like I said Mauser, Keep it and shoot it. If you don't like it, let me know... please... :)
