It's been several year since I have done one. Not a big deal in any respect. I think the barrel tenon was 15/16x 20tpi but this is from my admittedly flawed memory so it may or may not be correct. Regards, Bill
I got into some trouble a few years back when attempting to remove a barrel on the BBR, if memory serves me correctly the locking lug sleeve insert partially rotated on me causing the reciever to distort. Perhapse Bill had a different set up than I or just got lucky. After this expensive lesson I have never tackled another one so proceed with caution. David.
David,
I drill and tap an 8-40 hole through the recoil lug, receiver, and insert and put a screw in just to maintain alignment. This is done prior to disassembly and the screw stays for the duration. Regards, Bill.
The only new Browning(post FN) I would ever buy! Pap ,what are you going to rebarrel too? Is it a magnum or standard cartridge action? Has anyone ever seen the short action that they perportedly built, but had limited production?Dale Z
Bills advice about the 8 x 40 hold down could save the day. Before I proceeded with the barrel removal I studied Stuart Ottesons chapter on these guns and concluded that the press fit recoil lug assembly which has lobes ground on it to prevent slippage would stay in place. Which it did not!! It also mentions that the locking lug assembly is about 50 points rockwell so drilling into it was not going to make sense either for fear of broken drills and taps. If I understand Bills post his 8 x40 hole was through the whole assembly to keep it aligned, I wonder how he made out going through the sleeve or did the 8 x 40 stud just put enough pressure on it to keep it in place.David.

I had an inquiry about rebarreling one, a magnum, so am just researching.
Actually, the customer wanted to take a .257 Wby barrel off a Vangard and put it on his BBR, I believe the shank on Weatherby is larger than the BBR, so can be cut down and re-threaded to BBR. Is that correct?
