Hi guys,

There's 2 BL22 in my family. I gave them a good maintenance but am stuck at the sighting stage.
The factory sights are accurate but the folding rear that folds every few shots is a pain.
I ordered a few alternatives from Brownells but none will fit the Browning barrel dovetail.
I tried a receiver mount but both barrels are misaligned with their receivers.

Please would you have a good suggestion for me?

Shoot straight,
Phil

Fix the rear sight, there will be a broken little spring in there ,I think.
You could check with Western Gun Parts to see if they have sights off one.

You can disassemble the original sight and give the spring a tweak, if it is present still (not broken and gone)

It is visible in the Brownell's picture while the sight is folded down, and is a flat piece of spring stock with a bend on each end shaped like this ].

A gentle squeeze to add a bit more spring tension may be all it takes.

Use a dab of nail polish on the end of the pin to hold it in place on reassembly if the pin is not a tight enough friction fit.

Spot on advice!

Check out the skinner peeps, im currently looking for 1 this side of the border.
I'll do that, thanks!

None of the sights spring are broken, just all too weak.

No I tried alternatives .22 sights from other brands but the Browning dovetail is too deep.
That sight is the one I'd like to get rid of. Anyway Brownells won't ship Browning to Canada and canadians retailers sells the faulty sight 100$.

Seems like a proper fix, thanks. But since the spring is always at fault it seems like a poor design that I'd like to get rid of.

Or maybe consider that you got the dud, and that it's easily fixed.

It's not like we have hordes of folk out there #####ing about the same problem...

I set my one up with a Williams receiver sight & Marble's front sight to get a proper sight radius & clear focus on small targets. Me eyes ain't happy with open irons now.

Maybe I wasn't clear but I restored two BL22 and both had this folding problem. For a statistical analysis a sample of two is irrelevant. But it's still a 100% occurence in my experience of 2 rifles. Both are over 40 years old, maybe it's a normal spring life or maybe they improved the part since.
If your rifle doesn't have this problem I'm happy for you. I didn't come here #####ing, just politely asked for suggestions. Sorry if you're offended.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Would you know the Williams model #? I only find sights for BAR and BLR.

Why would you think I'd be offended? Christ, free advice is worth what you pay for it. I was telling you how I would deal with the problem.
That style sight was used on a lot more rifles than just the Browning. Personally, I think the design kinda delicate, but, whatever.
