Depends on the model as well. I paid $1000 for an almost brand new walnut and stainless one. Avoid the pre81's of you can because the magazines are more expensive than the guns if you can find them. Nothing to do with functionality though.

Seems the majority of BLR sellers think they are worth 900 plus regardless of age. Personally, 750 would be my upper limit and the rifle would have to be in top condition. Obviously, I'm not talking about a new rifle here. With newer ones, sellers tend to ask as much or more than you can find one still on the rack.
A new pistol grip .308 BLR will cost you $1319+tax at cableas. So used - Excellent shape(NIB).....$1000 - $1200 no tax. VG Shape......$800 - 1000 no tax.......Good shape.....Whats good? Age? Scratches? Bore? Round Count? If its a little beat up the $750 seems on the money.
A BLR is a great rifle. Light, handy, pretty accurate.
I prefer the pre 81 rifles to be honest, they're well balanced, light and handy. They have a slimmer steel receiver than the post 81 guns. The do have a magazine that is hard to find though, if you loose it, you may never find another.
the post 81 steel guns take the standard magazine and are very similar to the pre 81, just more "fat"
The lightweights are just that, light and handy. But I prefer them less. These have an alloy receiver and an ar15 style bolt face/extension.
Around $800 seems legit.

Very nice rifles and smooth operation. However, complicated to the point many gunsmiths won't take them apart. Not that you need too though. Plenty of decades old BLR's out there that have never had the internals exposed and they function just fine. $750 for a decent blued 308 is a fair price.

Agreed ^^. If you find a nice newer production one for $750 you are doing very well. In fact, buy two at that price if you ever find them...
I've had a few BLRs , pre and post 81 . They're decent rifles , but I can't seem to hang onto them . I do have a Savage 99 F in 308 however , that's not going anywhere . It shoots more accurately than any BLR I've ever owned . I can take it apart , including the rotary mag , for cleaning and put it together again . It's a personal thing , but I prefer the rotary mag to any magazine system . I actually traded straight across for it with , you guessed it , a BLR . I came out ahead in the deal .

I've has lots my first was a brand new one in the 90s $500 out the door.I took one apart not knowing what to expect and quickly realized I couldn't put it back together.I took it to a gunsmith who is a gunsmith by trade ,also a machinist and engineer.He had done many of them and showed me how to put it back step by step.ive taken a couple more down to pieces and had no trouble timing them and putting them back together,but I'm mechanically inclined and learn most things the first time I'm taught.
He thought so , that's why is was such a great deal for both of us . I did say the BLR is a good rifle , they're just not my thing . The 99 isn't a better rifle , I just like them more than BLRs , nothing more than that .
