browning blr 358

No experience with that combo but I have always wanted one. .358 is a great calibre. My local gun shop always has .358 available, I think it's still widely available. If I had the chance to buy one at a good price I would be all over it. I say go for it!

I own/have owned several.

Ammo used to be a pain if you didn't handload but Hornady has recently started producing it so on a go forward basis it should be a non-issue.

My favorite all-around rifle caliber!

Nice gun to shoot. You can make handloads from "kick like a mule" to "powder puff".
It tends to be a gun for handloaders. Lots of cast bullets and factory bullets available. I like the fact that you can use 357 handgun bullets, with gas checks sized to 358. A 150 gr bullet goes through a 7" poplar tree real easy. In a pinch you can neck up 308 cases to 358. enjoy

I have a chance to buy blr 358 what are your thoughts or experiances with this rifle. avail. of ammo???
If you're a handloader, go for the 358. If not, the 308 will work just fine for most hunting here in Canada.

I don't even bother trying to find factory ammo for my 358.

Just started reloading for my BLR 358. As far as ammo, there is nothing in my area but I plan to reload as I do with all my rifles. It's a great cartridge and more than you will ever need in most situations.
Just looked at the 2011 Hornady catalog and the 358 is not listed. Wondering where this info is coming from.

Great gun and even better caliber. Very accurate in my BLR but like the other siad very good cartridge if you reload as you can go from very light pistol rounds that will really open thinks up to 250 grain thumpers. But like one of the posters said Hornady has started reloading factory rounds for it so they should be fairly easy to get a hold of.

Love .358 BLR. Nice handling with relatively mild report and recoil. I feel it is best with 225 gr flat base bullets. 250 grainers need to be seated a bit deep due to tight chamber specs.

I have owned two of them in 358, and sold them both. Bought the first one the year they were introduced, and the next about 12 years ago.

The cartridge is one of the best we have for big game at ranges out to 250 yd or so, but the stock configuration is too low for proper use with a scope. It can be done, but one has to hold their head quite high off the stock to do so.

Now, having said that, it is about perfect for using the factory iron sights.
