Hey guys, looking for some knowledge on ammunition for a blr.
I Finally got the browning .223 that I've been drooling over for some time. I'm now looking to purchase some bulk amo and have noticed the price difference between steel casing and brass. I do intend on shooting the barrel smooth with this rifle and have heard brass is better for longevity.

Send me your thoughts and experiences

Check your twist rate before you buy stuff in bulk

Allways BRASS Case .... if you do not reload you can recycle it .... people will buy 1k of once fired brass, especially if it one lot

Congrats on the blr. The twist on the BLR is 1:12. I think riflemags(dot)co in the UK had 10rd 223 BLR mags if you care.

Start with a 55gr Rd before buying 62+ gr ammo in bulk. I'd want to test a few boxes of heavier ammo before committing to it, assuming you don't just want to do mag dumps at sub 100m distances.

With a non-takedown BLR id be more concerned about carbon build-up from the steel case rounds than barrel wear. It's not that easy to clean. Because of that I wouldn't bother shooting corrosive ammo in a BLR.
Given the difference in cost at today's prices between non-corrosive steel and brass bulk 223 (20-25c a round ?) even if steel were to wear your barrel prematurely even by the most alarmist ratio, I think the cost difference would pay for a new barrel which you could get in the twist rate you want.
