You likely have an original model BLR and bought a mag for a model 81. Or vice versa. POSSIBLY you bought a mag for a different cartridge??? (eg .30-06), which also would not fit.

Is the mag too thick for the mag-well, or too thin, or too long, or too short, or???

Sounds like you have a pre-81 model as Doug said. Your serial number will tell you the year, just go to the browning website under support I believe.

If you have a pre-81 the magazines are very difficult to find and usually quite pricey. I keep a close tab on mine for this reason.

browning blr .308 original model, feeding problems, jams on last shot in magazine, same for all mags

You are putting four rounds in the mag, and the top three feed fine, right? Then the last round does not feed (ie stays in the mag), or it does feed, but then jams?

If it stays in the mag, that sounds like a weak mag spring.

If it starts to feed but jams, that sounds like a bent mag follower.

But I have never seen that problem............
