Looking to buy this particular riffle with the 30-06 bullet version. I mostly do stalking hunting of white tail deer in Quebec.

I like the lever action riffles more than the bolt action but that’s just a personal preference.

Anyone out here ever tried it? What is your experience, pros and cons?

Thanks

Love my BLRs. I have 3. 2 takedowns (.308, .358) and a blued pistol grip (.358). Handy, lightweight rifle, great for whitetail in the woods.
I prefer the short action calibers vs long action (30-06) as the receiver is shorter and the rifle feels more balanced to me with the short action. Some people complain about the triggers being heavy. In my opinion, they are fine. Not a lightweight precision bolt trigger, more like a forest hunting, swamp trekking hands dirty kinda trigger.
Pros - Light, compact (short action models), very functional folding hammer safety. Aluminum and stainless are great for wet weather. Lots of optic mounting options - both scout and traditional scope positions. The takedown comes apart fast and easy. Very portable. Fast follow up shots, box magazine for easy loading / unloading.
Cons - Not the best choice for long range shooting; Trigger is firm; Cleaning thoroughly can be a bit of a hassle (although the takedown feature makes this easier). They are getting expensive. Recoil with the 30-06 will be sharp.

Thanks for your input, that is really helpful!
I was looking at the 30-06 long version because it could maybe be more versatile but I guess that will be for another riffle. I’m more interested in forest hunting and trekking.

I concur with DTM5: the standard length action doesn't carry or shoulder the same as the short action. I got rid of all my BLRs that were not short action because of this. Consider shouldering a 308 (A few Sails still have them) and a 3006 if you can find one (any configuration they're all the same), and you'll understand instantly. The takedown feature is worth the price for ease of cleaning alone IMO.

There's nothing in Quebec you can't take down with a 308. I'd rather give up a few FPS than the handling characteristics of the short action. The BLR action will handle very stout loads without sticking.
