I am looking for some feedback from people who have owned a rifle with BOSS. The rifle will be used for moose hunting. I am looking at a BAR Safari MKII in either 270, 3006 or 7mm. Is it actually worth the added weight and cost? How does it affect how the rifle balances? Also are the rifles with the boss hard to come by? how much more will i pay for the boss?

I just started playing with the BOSS on my Browning BAR 7mmRem Mag Safari,
In my opinion they are really worth it. My rifle being a semi auto is really picky to start with in the ammo it likes and in my first batch of handloads I was able to tighten my group a whole inch at 200m!!!. You have to be consous of it as they like to back off. When I get it tuned right in I will be threadlocking it in place. Just food for thought, I couldnt get this rifle to shoot inside 2 inches at 100m with factory loads so..... On top of it all it makes the rifle shoot like a dream but with a little extra noise. All in All I love it so far.

I have an A bolt in 243 wssm, with the boss system. Also has cr end, with no break.Using the muzzle break end,is crazy loud. The boss system works if you tune it to your different bullet weights. The non-muzzle break end,is fairly heavy.

I would say all Browning rifles are more than accurate enough for moose without the Boss. The Boss is, however, a very efficient muzzle-brake, particularly useful in the Magnum cartridges. This will allow you much more rifle time while practicing, which can't be a bad thing. Just wear earplugs while you are practicing and consider the Boss CR (conventional recoil) when hunting and not wearing ear protection.

I hear they make excellent paper weights!

That pretty much sums it up:)
I had a Bar Mark II in 7mmremmag, and the BOSS was extremely loud, and it took as many shots to tune the BOSS, as it usually takes me to work up a load. As well, the BOSS came loose a few times which changed the point of impact. Lastly, the BOSS equipped rifles produce less velocity, because the actual barrel is shorter to make up for the length of the BOSS.

I made the shots I needed to with my Browning A-bolt composite stalker in .300 Win Mag with no BOSS.

So, I say no, don't need it.

NAA.

You could not give me a Browning or Winchester rifle with one of those hideous attachments to the end of the barrel!
Muzzle brakes have their place in rifles, some .375's and most over that.
But the Boss is definitely not the brake I would choose.

Not a fan of them at all. If you are always alone when you shoot fine.

When I guided hog hunts you couldn't use me if you had a paperweight on the end of your rifle. Just too dangerous in the hands of excited clients.
