If it has factory choke tubes it will be fine for steel shot and yes steel is the most economical approved shot for waterfowl and required. I think Rob is thinking about upland and may have misread your post.
take care
Good Morning 3macs1, and the others as well.
I purposely asked the question to see if FLYBYU44 might narrow down his question just a little.
Nope, your not an idiot, but someone with tmi (possibly) floating around in your head.
Should you find a Browning BPS with choke tubes(removable) it would be fine to use for Steel Shot.
Steel Shot is a Federal Rule for Hunting Migratory Game Birds Internationally (Treaty)
Full choke (tube) or fixed barrel would not be recommended for the use of Larger than #2 size Steel and likely will damage the barrel.
Hence my question when you compared the two activities with a fixed choke gun.
Where I get messed up with choke tubes and Browning are the Invector tubes(chokes) and Invector Plus tubes.
I know I can go look them up for comparison, but there is no need on my part, cause I just follow what the book says for that particular firearm.
If you find a Browning BPS with a factory Modified barrel I would not hesitate to use it for steel shot, but that option is a minor limit for the many
possible uses of a shotgun with choke tubes.
Again to the stubblejumper

I hope in my first question to you and this reply I have offered some insight into your quest .
It certainly was not meant to belittle you or make fun of your valid question.
Jay, that sounds like a bummer what happened to your BPS, I didnt realize the vented rib was made out of aluminum , but have seen a few dented
ribs on various shotguns over the years. j
Just not as as deep as you experienced, suffice to say I hope there was a Great story behind the accident and the gun now has some added character .
Tight Groups,
Rob
