Anyone have experience or insights with regard to the Brownng BPS Upland with the straight English style stock and short barrel? How does it compare in terms of handling compared to a regular pistol-grip style stock?

My impression is that this should be a good grouse gun.

thanks in advance

Your impression is correct. I use mine also for deer hunting. I find the gun fits my shoulder well with the straight stock. I actually prefer the straight stock more now.

I have used one for years. My only complaint about the 12 gauge is that it is a little on the heavy side. I am currently looking for one in 20 gauge. The new 16 gauge coming out also looks interesting.

I have one in 20 gauge. In general I really like it, but would prefer the pistol grip stock. Just me, but I see no point in a straight stock except a SXS with two triggers. I wounder if a regular BPS stock would fit?

It's all preference, one thing for sure, with a straight stock the gun always comes up on target... I know it took me some getting used to, but like I said, it is all preference.

My Father has one in 12 ga and it handles really nice in the thick stuff...largely because it is fairly short. I think a straight grip is favourable in a SxS with 2 triggers so your hand can slide stightly between triggers (although I'm not sure that my hand moves, just my finger) and I have heard that the straight stock is nicer to hold onto for long periods of the "port arms" position...which does occur in the uplands. Regardless, Dad's gun is a really nice handling shotgun.

I bought one in 12 gauge 20 years ago from a cop who broke his shoulder playing hockey because he couldnt handle the recoil.

I loved it, it was my field goose gun and it swung quickly when you sat up. And then I dropped it on my buddies concrete deck and marred the stock - next thing I knew I had purchased a Benneli Nova...

All in all, an excellent shotgun. I even purchased a deer barrel for it. I like carbine length firearms for hunting and if you have a chance to grab one, dont hesitate
