OK, so I'm shopping for a .22

I have done the research read TONS of threads, and I like the browning Buck Mark.

I called browning to ask what makes the Contour 'lite' different from the regular, and the say the "shroud" is made of aluminium instead of steel.........

thats fine - but what do they mean by shroud?

does anybody out there own one of these? is the shroud solid? or not? is it fixed to the barrel? I have this nightmare of blowing $600 on a gun to find it comes with some cheap alumium thingy that looks like crap!

The guy I spoke to at browning took 15 minutes to figure out the aluminium/steel issue - I would have been on the phone all day if I had to ask him this.......

Thanks!

.

I personally like the Buckmarks. I have a standard URX and it's reliable and accurate.

As far as I know all Buckmark .22's are an alloy receiver.

Here's a Buckmark Countour Lite URX (matt black finished barrel)

Here's a picture of a Buckmark standard URX like I have.

The only difference I see is the contour barrel vs the slab side barrel and the alloy scope rail.

This is the one I bought for my wife (which she picked out and loves:p )!
It's the Buckmark Lite Splaxh URX 5.5

With the alloy sleeving, it reduces the barrel weight by about 6 oz.
(Sights are nice, too)

Very nice gun ontgunner.

She will enjoy it for a long time I'm sure.

How does it shoot with the reduced weight?

Thanks guys,

I agree the brownings are pricy, but.... shucks - they're so darn purdy!

I would have to assume that a reduced barrel weight is going to increase muzzle flip......

What I'm wondering is - is the alloy sleeving fixed to the barrel? I would assume so.
Also is going with a bull barrel over, say, the Contour, going to make a signifigant difference to accuracy?

I was afraid, that even with just a .22, it might have too much jump.
Never materialized! This gun shoots far better than she or I ever will.
The grips and sights are much nicer than on my Buckmark Camper!

when your Lite arrives give us a range report....when I was shopping I was looking at the Contour Lite...but picked the regular 5.5 contour....I couldn't be happier...took almost a year to get the regular contour...did they give you a time line on the Lite

Well, I am told their is 1 contour lite 7.25 at Browning Canada, and 0 at browning USA........ so I am praying I can get it!!!!!!

My other option was the BuckMark bullseye - but their are 0 available in North America~!

Is a lighter gun better? Will it help accuracy?
