And I thought all 22lr ammuntion was the same..... In the first month shooting my new Browning Buckmark, it started to tell me that it didn't like Winchester. A few jams or half-ejections made it quite frustrating. I thought it was improper cleaning or oiling, though I seemed to be doing it right. Then I tried Federal bulkpack and when I had trouble finding more Federal, CCI Blazer. Not a problem with either. I am a new shooter, so this type of problem is something I don't understand. What's going on?

How are you cleaning it? Is it a new gun? Do you take the barrel and slide off?
My new one got pretty sticky right away. Took it apart and cleaned the rails.

use cci mini mags for all .22 pistols (22 Long Rifle Mini-Mag HV Ammunition, 40gr, 1235FPS). They have cleaner burning powder and more kick to make sure the slide goes all the way back every time. worth the extra ten bucks a box. Easily blast a box of 500 with no jams. Take apart and clean the pistol after 1000 or so. Run a bore snake in between range sessions until you get to 1000. Good luck!

It should be able to function just fine without having to pay an extra $10 a box for ammo.
I can't imagine every buckmark ever produced has to use cci's to work properly.

I have a buckmark as well. All of the various kinds of Winchester have given me problems too. Probably 10-15% failures. Stovepipes, failures to cycle, etc. And it burns much dirtier than other ammo I've tried.

The 525 round Federal bulk packs have worked very well. Usually only 1 failure in all 525 rounds.

Also, the Remington 'bucket o bullets' stuff seems to work quite well too. Less than 1% failure anyway. Not quite as good as the Federal stuff, but it's cheaper.

Never tried CCI minimags. Sure they'd work well, but didn't feel the need to spend the extra.

I own two Buckmarks - one for over 15 yrs - and neither one likes Winchester. In fact, I have a couple semi-auto rifles that don't like it either. It's been my experience that some of the Win ammo is excessively waxy which after a bit of use gums up feed lips on mags as well as feed ramps. This buildup seems to increase the friction on rounds being fed into the chamber resulting in FTF and FTE. As a result, I have relegated the use of Win. rimfire ammo to my bolt-actions.

If you're looking for cheap ammo for your Buckmark, I've historically had good luck with the Remington "Golden Bullets" that you can now buy in 1400 rnd. pails for around $70. I know some aren't a fan of them, as they aren't match grade and you get the odd dud, but they're more accurate out of my Buckmark than the Winchester and won't gum up the works.

Even the budget LRN Remington Thunderbolts seem to work OK, as far as cheaper ammo goes, then course Mini Mags (if you can find them) as already mentioned are great if you are willing to spend a little more $$.

When I first got back into target shooting a few years ago, I used nothing but Remington Thunderbolt in my Buckmark because it's the cheapest junk out there. After a while I got tired of a filthy gun and a 5% to 10% dud rate and switched to CCI. Haven't had one dud since.

Thirty years ago, I was highly impressed by some no-name Taiwanese stuff that came in a white box, and absolutely horrified by Aguilla from Mexico.

When I feel more ambitious I'll try some others.

That 'Bucket O' Bullets' that Remington makes run really well in my Buckmark. I still have like half a bucket left..
I tried those, CCI's, Federal, and Some Peter's brand?? (The Peter's was made by Remington after some reading..)

I have a 24 yr old buckmark and the only ammo I had any major issues with was the with the Winchester Wildcat. Lately I've been using the CCI tactical AR ammo and all I can say is my buckmark really likes it. Costs a little more, but worth every cent.

My prohib Beretta 71 will only cycle reliably with standard velocity ammo (it really likes cci) I tried higher velocity ammo and it seems the slide cycles too fast and I get jams and failures to pick up the next round. Every gun is different, so before you run out and buy a case of ammo based on someone's say so, try a couple of boxes to make sure

The first time I went out with my buckmark camper I shot a 525 pack of federal bulk with no problem followed by about, 200 Winchester white box, and 100 Winchester super X. Had 2 or 3 rounds that didn't fire but it was the ammo not the gun, perfect functionality after 800+ rounds.

What Winchester were you shooting? I haven't had issues so far.

Mine shoot flawlessly with the American Eagle 38 gr. hollowpoints. They are not the cheapest, but decent quality ammo and high enough velocity to cycle most semi auto pistols.
