I currently hunt with a SBE2 but have been doing more upland hunting lately and want to get an O/U to use. I has it narrowed down to a Franchi Instinct SL, but I recently came across a Citori superlight feather at a decent price. I have always wanted a Beretta/Browning but they are really cost prohibitive.

I had read that there had been some issues with the citori superlights in the past (Firing Pins). Anyone have any info on if these issues have been rectified in the newer guns? Any advice on the gun or suggestions on other options are welcome. Thanks for the feedback.

I recall reading about the same issue few years back but that circulated specifically around the 16ga Superlights. How much of that is/was fact and how much web gossip is difficult to decipher. So far, i haven't come across anyone with first hand info regarding the apparent issue.

If the straight stocked Superlight Feather appeals to you then you may also wish to look at its predecessor, a 20ga Upland Special (with steel receiver) that Gagnon (Oshawa, ON) has for sale -http://www.gagnonsports.com/index.php?product=CON-90316 - I own one with 24in bbls .... its the only Browning that fits me the same as my Berettas.

From what I have been able to find it was an issue with the 12's and not the 20's. Hard to go wrong with a browning, think I will pull the trigger on this.

Thanks for the quick response.

I currently own a beautiful Superlight 12g (not the alloy receiver Feather version) and I love it. Fits me very well for a straight stocked gun and the the 26" bbls suit the gun perfectly. Just used it on 2 rounds of skeet today and it shot wonderfully with no issues. I believe the firing pin issue was with some of the 16g Citori releases. I've also owned a few of those and never experienced any failure to fires.

Buddy purchased one as a target gun and soon moved it along.
Very light and accumulative effects of recoil were objectionable after just a round or two.
I'll bet they're just fine as a dedicated upland gun though !

Gun is going to be a dedicated upland gun, so I think I should be safe. If I was looking for a target gun I would definitely be looking for something with a little less recoil. Happy to hear that the issues were not with the 12/20's and just the 16's. Now the only thing I am scared off is that I will keep getting that itch for more of these beautiful over/unders to add to the safe...

I am not a fan of the Superlights... I vastly prefer the balance and feel of the steel receiver Lighting versions... the 20 gauge is plenty light enough for field use... the 12's are a fair bit heavier, but are so well balanced that I don't really notice the extra weight... I have a Grade 2 Hunter out being converted to interchangeable choke tubes as I write this... it will become another dedicated field gun.

The Superlights are steel receivers, it's the Superlight Feathers that have alloy receivers. Mine is a tad under 7lbs, and with light target loads it's fine on the skeet field. Because of the hard butt plate it's not the most comfortable, but still ok. The Superlight Feathers are in the mid 6lbs range, so you'll feel feel recoil even more withnthose

I have a 625 Feather which is pretty much the same receiver as the Superlight Feather, and I have had no issues of any kind after about a thousand rounds, most of which has been shooting skeet with the 410 barrels.

Gun just arrived me tonight and I have to say that it is beautiful. Going to be a long wait for bird season. Browning included a set of omega chamber locks with the gun, have any of you guys had experience with these? Gun will be going in the safe, just more curious than anything else as I have never seen them before.

Mine are still in the bag in the box . I have a take down case so no use for the locks . Lots of clubs around where you can put some shells through the gun befor bird season .

I have given away, or thrown out dozens of padlocks and other locking devices over the years, because my firearms are all stored in a lockup. As far as shooting the shotgun, I would never hunt with a shotgun that I haven't shot skeet or sporting clays with first.

I will definitely get out for a day or two of skeet before the season starts.
