Hi Everyone I was wondering if I could get some info ie: value of this shotgun. It is a Belgium FN Browning Double Auto. VG++ condition. The receiver is light gray aluminium with silver in lay. 23" barrel, cylinder bore? I can't see any indication of what the barrel type is. I am wanting to sell this and I would like to have a price range thanks RF

I had a duck hunting partner down on the Coast who used one of those for many years and killed huge numbers of ducks and geese. They are great guns, but just one man's opinion, they are not all that generally popular and were it mine I'd put 350 to 400 on it.

Last one I bought was $350 without the rib.
Oldbadger bought a nice one with a polychoke for $400.

The model you have was called the "twelvette" and has an aluminum receiver. The "Double Auto" had a steel receiver and weighs a bit more.

IIRC the choke should be on the barrel, but it is not "full", etc. but is indicated by little stars or something. If I get a chance I will look at mine when I get a second.

I am pretty sure that is a Skeet barrel, as I have the same one (solid grooved rib and 23" long) and it is choked skeet. BTW, they make a great skeet semi; fast and reliable.

Yes that is a Twelvette...and a fine very original example as well. Rib is called a "channel" rib. The 23 inch barrel is a bit strange, I would assume it has been shortened by some knuckle head. Reciever is aluminum, usually has a "A" infront of the serial #. Double Auto steel versions have an "S" there instead. Browning choke codes are found on the left side of the barrel where it is says Special Steel. Choke codes are as follows....

* Full
**Modified
**- Improvec Cyl.
**$ Skeet

I own a steel DA and shoot it mainly onn upland birds and crows. They shoot very fast and have light recoil even with stiffer loads. DA's are not however steel shot compatable. Value is rather limited here in Canada. That shotgun priced at 600 dollars would sit on the rack for some time here in Canada. Also the chopped barrel wouls severely impact on the value. DA's have a good following in the U.S. but for all intents and purposes that may as well be on the dark side of the moon.

Again, very nice gun.

The steel receiver model (double auto) are not bad with a quality pad. The "twelvette" with the aluminium receiver is more suited to hunting.

Recoil operated and both versions are very shooter friendly. To have a rubber pad installed on a good original DA would seriously damage its value:eek:. Besides the factory bakelight or plastic but plates with the Picture of J M Browning on it and the "Double Auto" are cool:cool:. Firing DA's is strange as well. They have a hollow drum like report to the shooter. I'm sure I've killed a thousand crows with mine!:)

r fallon *** indicates a cyl. bore.

How would a recoil pad cut the value? Recoil pads are ground to the original butt size. You can put the plastic one back on any time you want to.

Kind of... but in most cases when a recoil pad is installed one must cut the stock down a bit to provide a flat surface to bond the rubber white line or spacers to the wood via screws of possibly resin. Stock might be too long without cutttig as well.

Again the DA in satin grey is in outstanding condition...would be nice to keep it original...if it were mine I would. Just my 2 cents worth.

One just sold on Gunbroker for 1550.00. NIB Dragon Black Grade I Twelvette, 30 inch full, ribbed with ivory beads, manufactured in 1970. Thought the Americans were into some of tough economic conditions?

Still think the barrel may have been cut?

The barrel is as stated a CYL. choke (***)= Cyl. Barrel is most likely a 26 inch, not 25 3/4 "...depends on how it was measured. If it has indeed been cut down one would have to have it in hand to clairify that. Would make a fine skeet gun or ruffed grouse killer as well.

Model 12 this proves once again that condition is everything along with originality documents and box I just don't think those shotguns are that special.
