I picked up a brand new browning gold light 10 in Feb for spring snows. Didn't get to run many shells through in the spring since the weather messed up the birds. I started running it during the regular goose season and I've been having some (a lot) of issues with it jamming. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues or if it may be my gun specifically. Any thoughts?
I've ran federals, Remington's and Winchesters through it all with the same result. I followed the instructions and cleaned it up before using it the first time, I have cleaned it in between uses....nothing seems to help. I'm taking back to the place of purchase while it is under warranty. I guess I'm just wondering if there is something I should be looking at or if this is the proper coarse of action. Any input is greatly appreciated.
 
I have a Browning Gold 10 Gauge.
I bought it new and I've had it for several years now, likely fired it at least 300 times with some factory loads but mostly reloads and it's never had any kind of malfunction (unless missing a goose is a malfunction...).

That isn't much help to you I know but there is at least one that works fine.
I like mine a lot. Very effective.
 
Is it failing in the same way each time? Can you describe the jam?
These guns extract and eject with a vengeance. Is it tearing case rims or anything like that?
 
I have two of them in 10ga but not lightweights both will tear winchester hulls apart and hate them. Federals and rem work fine
May sound crazy but they like reloads better than factory probally because I spend so much extra time resizing.
One did have some cycling problems when it was new and if I remember right there was a burr and some roughness on the bolt slide which once removed away went the problems. I have a ton of shells through them now.
Also like to be super clean vs the sp10 and ithaca wich could not care less
 
It cycles the second round into the chamber but it seems like it doesn't seat 100%, I end up having to manually cycle the second round out and the third round in place.
 
Sounds like a sticky chamber.
But, without handling it I just spitting in the wind here.
My 20 gauge Browning Gold hated the second box of shells on the Sporting Clays Field.
Have you heard of how guys have fixed the issue with the Remington Express' ?
You might start there.
Just tossing an idea out there and see if anyone else may concurs or disagree?

I'm thinking a bit different Rob. Sticky chamber would jam the 1st shell also.
Sounds like what mine was doing from the burr and rough slide but it was back in the 90's and hard for me to remember
Also seen recoil springs weak or broke on other semi's even new ones from sitting that would do this
I thought it has been a few years now since they made the gold light weight but could be wrong it might be the steel receiver like mine they stopped

So hard to fix a gun not in your hands

You know 3macs1, I never thought about the recoil spring.
But, I'm still gonna make the guy look at cleaning his chamber and maybe even buffing it a little to
further negate any more troubles ;)Will, commit the spring to memory for future trouble shooting too.
Pun not intended.
Has the OP figured anything out since posting?

It does sound like the recoil spring its probally full off packing greese its easy to take apart just don't lose the two little pins lol use a punch to take them out slowly oil the spring once you clean it.Clean the tube out as well...
 
Took it back to the place of purchase. It has a year warranty so I figure instead of me messing something up I'll just send it back and have a professional look at it. If it comes back and is still a prick I'll start going through the list you guys have given me. Thanks for the information guys, I really appreciate it. I'll let you know if they give me a report back.
 
Update

I must apologize, I forgot to post an update.
I received my browning 10 back about a month after I returned it to the place of purchase. The claim from the smith is that it was dirty.......I aint buying that. Either there is some magic spot in the gold that needs a special deep clean that I am un aware of or they fixed something that they are not willing to admit to. Gun ran fine the last two time I had it out. Thoughts?
 
I believe them. I know mine have to be super clean as I have stated in a earlier post plus they probally cleaned the recoil spring as bubba682 suggested
I know when I bought my 1st one in 1993 I was shooting a rem sp-10 also and it was a learning experience for me on just how clean they had to be since the sp-10 could not care less if I ever cleaned it.
Put it this way we hunt today and I fire three rounds, that night I totally clean the gas system. The 12ga seems to be much more tolerant to being dirty vs the 10ga for reasons I cannot figure out
 
Mine will run filthey dirty the only time it jamed was when it got filled with sand from along the the beach hunting in a nor,easter it was blowin hard and when some wax feel off my reloads and ended up in the trigger assembly.Normal wear and tear should not stop it the gun should work great dirty one thing i do notice when guys are shooting store baught shells theres alot of unburnt powder that can gunk up trigger mechs and bolt rails.I clean out the return spring assembly at the end of the season and midway thru the new season it can rust up quick if you hunt in the rain and snow.Or if you drop your gun in the ocean this year like i did lol in jan when i rolled my kayak all i could say was burr...

Holy F'K man now I know why you have to wax your reloads but when I said the gold 10 was good for diver ducks I should have said wait until they surface :D
