I was looking at buying a Browning International Medalist and was wondering what everyone had to say. Is this a good choice for a beginner? What are your reviews on this pistol?

One of the better target pistols around. Certainly has become a collectors, selling for $120 in early 60's to $6-800 today for 95% to excellant. Although I don't own one, it's on my list (need more $). Quite a few of the guys a my club shot them, I've shot them and a very nice piece. You won't go wrong picking one of these up. To ensure excellent resale, make sure you get the whole works - case, barrel weights, barrel tool, etc. Manuals can still be obtained from Browning.

Got my models mixed up a bit. The Browning I'm talking about is the Medalist, not the International, which came out at a later date. Medalist was mfg. 64-75. International was mfg. 77-80. Blue book list the International at about $100 less, although I think you could do better. They don't seem to be in high demand.

Sorry about the facts mixup.

I bought Browning Medallist in 1967 for NRA matches and shot it for a number of years. With great success I might add. I have bought several ISSF pistols in the meantime, Haemmerlis, Walthers etc. Can't beat them for accuracy, but I'm still hanging on to the Medallist. Got a short barrel and put a red dot on it. Am using the long bbl. for open sight shooting. Just now am looking to replace some of the springs and am not having much luck so far.
Sure like the Medallist, though.

I have an International Medalist for sale in the EE forums, as new.
As waynewjw mentioned, the international version did not come with weights and accessories, has no wooden foregrip, and has a slightly shorter barrel for international competition

They have an International Medalist in Xcellent condition for $350.00. Give them a call, they are a bunch of really helpful guys. They also usually always have some high standards and other 22 auto target pistols in inventory at any given time.
Good luck
