My uncle is looking for an idiot proof easy to use quality scope to put on his Browning M1000 .300 Win Mag. He wants to reach out and touch something out to 500 yards and possibly beyond. He will be using it for coyotes, benchrest and possibly zombies that keep there distance. He does not know how to use the mildot system and wants to stay away from it if possible. He is also a handloader.

He will need rings/mount and the scope. He already has a Leica range finder and spotting scope too partner up with.

These are what he's been thinking about:

Leupold's VX-7L 4.5-18x56mm Long Range
Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 Riflescope - BT-PLEX Reticle

Any help would be appreciated :)

Nightforce 5.5-22X56...?

Best internal elevation, best reticle selection.

Nice to see him looking at good quality. You'll never regreat investing in good opticv

I am shooting my browning m1000 eclipse .300 wsm with a leupold VX 3 6.5-20x50 mm LR with varmint reticle. Purpose for this rifle is hunting and targets out to 1000. Not sure I am entirely happy with it and may switch over to a Nightforce 5.5-22X56 with an NP-R1 reticle.

Well I am a Nighforce user and am very satisfied. That said, a standard Leupold VX3 hunting scope is more than adequate for 500 yards.

If he plans to shoot 500 - 1000 yards and beyond, higher magnification and adjustable turrets become desirable.

I think there are better ways to spend money than on Leupold VX - 7L but thats just me.

The Nighforce you are considering is a very fine choice. Very easy to use, crystal clear glass, great low light performance, repeatable, large elevation adjustment range.
