Browning maxus 3.5" w/ 2 3/4 light loads

I'm in the market for a new shotgun, and I want the maxus. I currently have a rem 1187 that shoots everything fine except light 2 3/4 loads which is probly to be expected.

Does anyone have any experience with the 3.5" maxus and lighter target loads? I only goose hunt a couple times a year so I'm trying to decide if I should just go with the 3" for reliability
 
Can't say I have had any issues with anything I have fed mine...3.5" to target loads...although I am probably the opposite of you in terms of usage. I mostly waterfowl hunt and on occasion shoot some clays. I have had mine for I think 4 years now and have to say....don't regret the purchase one bit. It fit me so well when I picked it up the first time I knew it was the one for me. That being said I shoot 3 1/2" for late season birds but if you aren't going to then just roll with the 3" version...your wallet will thank you and you won't give up much in terms of performance (just buy better 3" HD shells).

I shoot a lot of skeet and doves, and we are just getting into geese.

I really liked the 3.5" BB but the couple times a year I'm going to shoot those I don't think it'll be worth the hassle if it doesn't like the lighter loads.

I settled with the rem and now I'm kicking myself for not buying the maxus off the hop
 
From the Browning site Q & A section question # 120 actually . the 3" model they say most 7/8 oz to 3" . for the 3 1/2" they say most 1 oz to 3 1/2 " .have seen a couple 3 1/2 with light load issues right out of the box but once broken in the issue disappeared .
 
My3 1/2 maxus works light loads just fine unless its cold outside. I have tried various lubes and lack of lube and for some reason it wont quite cycle far enough to get the shell up. Either than that one little issue i love it.
 
I haven't played much with the Maxus but in all the Silver/SX3 3.5" guns I've had all would cycle a 7/8oz @ 1200fps handload without issues and some even cycled a 3/4oz @ 1200fps handload without issues. The Maxus gas system is suppose to be an improvement for light load reliability over the Silver/SX3 so that should tell the story!
 
I have shot everything from 2.75" 1 oz clay loads to 3.5" 2 1/4 oz turkey loads with no problems at all.
 
Thanks for the input everyone, yesterday I went out and bought the maxus in 3.5"

I shot 12 light #8s through it and even without the gun being broken in it shot perfect.
