I have four .22 target pistols, two revolvers and two semi-autos. Whenever I go to the range I start out with a rimfire before I start with a center fire. I’m also adding red-dot sights to my most used guns, as my eyes aren’t getting any younger.

With impending legislation I would like to add a more accurate pistol to my selection before the opportunity goes away.

Looks like I have to decide between the Medalist or the Model 41. Both are available on the used market, and within my means. I will add a red-dot to my choice. I’ve shot a few 41’s and like them fine, haven’t shot a Medalist, it my current shooter is a Browning Buckmark and it’s more accurate than my Smith model 17, or my Highstandard.

So, any advise on how I should proceed?

Thanks in advance.

If you are going to spoil a fine pistol by installing a red dot on it, let it be the 41, the Medalist doesn't deserve this treatment.

Now a Buckmark was designed for such a sight.

I've had a Buckmark, a Medalist and a 41. I couldn't say that one had better accuracy than the other. I'd put a red dot on the Buck Mark and call it good. It's easier to get mags for, more reliable and,if you do the trigger spring flip, has a great trigger. I used to shoot mine at a gallon paint can lid sized steel plate at 100m and it wasn't terribly hard to get a 50% or better hit rate after some practice. The Buckmark was my first pistol and I put at least 100k of rounds through it and had no issues. I used to shoot a brick of ammo 2 nights a week when I first started shooting pistols.
Red dot mounts are readily available for the Buck Mark but would be somewhat hard to find for the 41 and probably have to be cobbled together for a Medalist.

Medalist has an issue with obtaining original factory magazine
Some of the after market one's work some don't
Model 41, lots of magazine's available because they still make the gun
Buck Mark has lot's of magazine's available
Parts are an issue with the medalist , they are around and you should buy them, if you find them
