I'm planning on buying a Browning Micro Midas for my daughter in a 7-08. I'm interested in information about the felt recoil of a small 6 pound gun in this caliber. Any other information good or bad would be apreiciated.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I'm looking for information on the Browning Micro Midas, not so much on the 7-08 caliber.

I would like to hear from someone who has a young shooter or small framed girlfriend/ wife useing one. I have read all the company info.

One of my wifes favorite rifles (I can't get her to trade it at all) is a Micro Hunter LH which is very similar. She doesn't like shooting my .338 Rem Ultra mag in a 7.5 lbs. Rem 700 but tolerates the 7mm-08. She loves the .243 so I'm splitting the difference and building her a custom 6 lbs. .260 Rem which should be perfect all around for her. The downside, is she won't let me rebarrel her darling Browning. It also shoots 1" groups with ease.

I have a 260 and 6.5x55, the recoil is the same. My guns are to heavy and the LOP is to long for her. The 7-08 and 260 will have the same recoil, so if she just tolerates the 7-08and the 260 you plan to build her is lighter she might not like it. Unless your really biulding it for your self, which I would understand!

I used to have a 7mm-08 in a Model 7 Synthetic. It had substantial felt recoil. I shot it side by side with my 7mm RM and felt recoil was similar. Much of it has to do with stock fit and design. I guess the Model 7 just fit me well.

I used it with full power 140 and 160gr handloads, so that could be adjusted to make for milder recoil. The other thing I noticed was that velocities were quite poor compared to book values - +2700 for 140s and +2400 for 160s. This seemed to confirm what the Nosler No.4 manual says - that the 7mm-08 is at best with long barrels.

I'd skip the 7mm-08

All her rifles are very similar in weight (she gets cranky after they reach the 7 lbs. mark) And by tolerate I mean she can shoot it 20+ rounds without any recoil induced fatigue or loss of accuracy. It should be noted that a 6 lbs. 7mm-08's recoil is considered stout, but not punishing.

If she was only going to hunt deer the 243 would be great. I'm thinking of taking her moose hunting also so that is why the 7-08 was my first choice. I don't want to get her a gun that she won't like to shoot if the recoil is to much.

I was thinking along the same lines as you 1899. I may have to work up some lighter loads. I sure would like to here from someone who shoots a Micro Midas!

I'm not sure if this helps but I have a LH Browning micro A-bolt in 300wsm. Other than the length of pull and possibly the barrel length, I don't think there's much difference between the rifles. Most people who haven't handles one of these "micros" think they are tiny little toys made for kids and little women. The guy behind the counter at one gun shop said "what? You want a micro in 300wsm? That will kick like a son of a b.." I can assure you there is practically no difference between a micro and a regular Browning hunter model except for a bit of length and a barely noticeable amount of weight. The 300wsm, with a Limbsaver, is fine to shoot, not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Tolerance to recoil is different for everybody. She might not have any problems what so ever.

Just my 2 cents.

I've handled the Xbolt Micro Midas in 308, damn handy little rifle. Should be a great choice for a smaller shooter. A good handload for low recoil is 120gr Nosler BT & 35grs H4895. Does 2550 fps in a 20" pipe (m7 SS & Savage Axis) and accuracy is good.

Kelly, can you help out?

I have a similar gal, Browning Micro Medallion in 7mm-08, have been using Hornady Lite Magnums, there is some quite noticeable recoil with them. Kelly, the combine pilot from Sask has sent me some fine data for hand loads, so I will be switching to them. I'm pretty sure when he see's this thread, he will chime in and possibly be able to give ya a nice tame recipe that your daughter will have no trouble handling. A mighty fine cal, this 7mm-08. My Micro Medallion in 308 has been staying home for some time, now! Good Luck. :)
