I'm looking for some info on the Browning Model 12 reproductions, I'd like to find out when it was built, and in the pass I was able find build dates on the Browning site. It's a grade 1 20ga that I picked up a few months ago, and mostly I'm looking to see if anyone knows what years Browning did the runs of reproductions. Thanks

Off the top of my head limited runs in 1991 and 1992 maybe 4000 or 5000 of each
Just know I have a full set of grade 1's NIB with the model 42 :) and an extra 28ga I shoot that I had briley fit choke tubes in

According to Matt Eastman's Browning book, the 20 gauge Model 12 Browning was introduced in 1988, the 28 gauge in 1990, and the Model 42 in 1992.
The serial number should indicate the date of production.
The 20 gauge Model codes are Grade I -832, and Grade V - 932.
The book doesn't indicate production numbers for 20 and 28 gauge.
Production of the Model 42 was advertised to be 6,000 in Grade I, and 6,000 in Grade V.

?? I ordered/ bought the 20 and 28 the same day and yes the 42 a few years later . Don't recall the 20 being out 2 years prior

heres some info on Browning Model 12/42 dates straight from my stash of orig Browning catalogs;
1988: Model 12 in 20g introduced - 8000 GrI models and 4000 GrV's to be made
1989: Model 12 in 20g still catalog item
1990: Model 12 in 20g still catalog item
: Model 12 in 28g introduced - 8000 GrI models and 4000 GrV's to be made
1991: Model 12 in 20g no longer catalog item
: Model 12 in 28g still catalog item
1992: Model 42 in 410 introduced - 6000 GrI models and 6000 GrV's to me made
: Model 12 in 28g still catalog item (interesting to note in the "92 catalog is says 7000 GrI's and 5000 GrV's to be made vs the original claim of 8000/4000)
1993: Model 42 in 410 still catalog item (last year, not in '94 catalog)
:Model 12 in 28g no longer catalog item
I have read before that many of these guns sat on shelves unsold for quite some time after, so it was still very possible to get these new from dealers even into the 2000's. I myself (a former owner of many of these fine M12 repro's) remember a few dealers still having some mid 2000's

I would say that quite a few Browning Model 12 guns were saved New in the Box, particularly the Grade V.
I've seen a fair number of NIB guns in Western Canadian gun shows, over the years.

Thanks for the clarification

Guns are Cataloged before production starts Also Canadian dealers were last on the list USA dealers were first that being said I think they sold better in Canada at our little mah and paw store we sold quite a few .
I only have a grade one 28 ga left and it is not in collector condition
