Browning semi auto 22short takedown

I am also looking for Browning SA 22 short in Canada. Did you find one? Do you know where I can find a Browning SA 22 in a short or collectors type edition? I would be very interested in any quality pieces.

Many Thanks,
Doug

I thought they stopped making those and the ones available were still in the pipeline? I’ve been looking also and never seen one for sale in Canada.

I wonder what the actual difference between a long riffle and short would be? I wonder if a person could make a simple modification to a long riffle model to have it operate short shells. I would not think there is much difference in the internal components between the 2 models. Just kind of wondering. A gunsmith or design person at Browning might know the answer.

Now, take this with a grain of salt, as I have not poked around in a Short model.

But poking through several LR models, as well as a few clones, my buck would be on the recoil spring, and the feed adapter/cartridge stop unit which prevents double feeds jamming the works, as the major changes. You would need to stop the following cartridge far enough forward that the bolt could still pick it up, which it may not do if it were stopped where the LR version does. I'd have to poke around the innards of one to guess better.
They may or may not have put the slower twist rate barrel on the modern guns, 20 inch per turn, vs the 16 used on the LR.

A side by each comparison of the parts lists would sort out the real deal.

I loved the idea of a Short semi auto, up until Short ammo started costing considerably more than LR. The availability of subsonic or reduced noise LR ammo further reduced the draw.

Good Day: I have a 1922 remington m24 short only, which is basically a copy of the browning. I have found that the breechblock is lightened and the recoil spring is also lighter.
My old m24 is a favorite for chasing pesky chipmunks around the yard. I have a marbles peepsight on it and it is accurate enough for the job.
