I just purchased a Browning Silver Hunter 28” 12 gauge 3” chamber. It is a beautiful gun and came highly recommended. But alas I am not a smart man. During the initial cleaning I accidentally let the bolt slam closed without the barrel in place! :runaway:

Of course now there is an small indent on the receiver where the operating handle hit it. I haven't even shot the gun yet and I did this. Of course that mark will be the first thing I see every time I pick up the gun and its going to make me crazy. But enough of my woes.

My question is this, will this affect the gun in any way other than cosmetically? The damage is very small and is not in an area where the bolt slides so it doesn't effect the functioning of the gun at all.

I haven't even shot it yet! AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHH!

I did the same thing to my maxus several years ago when cleaning it . I used a small jewelers file to remove the small burr it created on the inside edge of the ejection port .the indent has not caused any issues with the gun and it has 6000 or 7000 target and hunting loads through it now . now when I remove the barrel I immediately release the bolt while holding the cocking handle to control the bolts forward motion so there is no chance of accidently releasing the bolt while handling the receiver during cleaning .

Lesson learned here for you guys. Leave the bolt in a closed position before disassembly. I've never done this on my sx3. Always pull the bolt handle as my first step and then unthread the barrel and the bolt just falls out.
