I am just wondering if anyone has one, or has shot one. I am looking to replace my other half's that was stolen a couple of years back. Hers was a Marlin 917 with the heavy barrel. It shot really good and was a lot of fun. I have a t-bolt in .22LR and its great, if the .17HMR is as good, I think I am going to pick one of them up. Opinions Please?

If you have deep pockets ...then choose a .17 HMR....the ammo costs are very high. Look at how many.17s are for sale in the EEs...that gives you a clue. The .22 ammo costs are rising also but they can be as much fun as any other without the high operating costs.

The .17HMR is for my other half to plink gophers with. She does not get out to shoot as much as I do (1 kid under 2 and another on the way) so the ammo cost does not really matter. She likes to "Challenge" herself and hit them at 100+ yards. And I have to admit, she is a VERY good shot. She has the trophy's from Army Cadets to prove it. LOL. I use my 22-250 from time to time to play with the gophers at long range, but I "Roll my own" for that one. Thank you for your input.

I have a synthetic stock varmint version in 17hmr it is a very accurate gun and I am pretty happy with it. I adjusted the trigger down a bit and it has improved it quite a bit. Don't worry about the plastic parts they seem pretty durable.
