Browning T1 T-bolt without a serial number?

Trying to determine if Browning model T1 T-bolt rifles in their early days came without serial numbers? I looked everywhere, even googled pictures of this model to make sure I know exactly where to look but there is no #.

I had one and the serial number was stamped on the under side of the barrel in front of the forend.
