I have recently acquired a Browning .375 H+H with BOSS(muzzle brake).

I have taken the rifle to the range and very impressed, however the noise using the BOSS w/muzzle brake is incredible!!!

I am wearing ear protection of course at the range, however looking for comments regarding people who hunt with rifles with BOSS/Muzzle brake. Is it just too loud when out in the field where you would not be wearing ear protection? I am contemplating using the BOSS w/conventional recoil as it will result in increased recoil, however would save on the ear damage when out on a hunt.

Thanks for all your comments!

Ive shot a BOSS Abolt 375 H&H, and can attest to the horrid sound level

I shot with plugs & muffs

I'd get a BOSS CR for hunting...

X2 on the CR, the blast from the braked version is plain brutal. I have a 30-06 BOSS and my first time without hearing protection (on a big black bear) was nasty for the both of us.

I had Browning in 7mm with the boss... I liked the boss option and the only downside was wearing plugs AND muffs at the range... The rifle was deadly accurate and pure murder on deer... Oh ya, No plugs for hunting and boy was it loud!!!

Cheers

Get a BOSS CR for hunting, or use the CR all the time if the increased recoil from the CR doesn't bother you.

A single shot without hearing protection with a braked gun will usually cause the ears to ring.According to the medical people that test our hearing at work, every time your ears ring due to a loud noise, permanent hearing damage has resulted.

i had a 338 -378 with a muzzle brake and used plugs and muffs at the range and it was still loud.,but not as loud as when i shot a moose with no hearing protection.......the moose looked like an invisible godzilla picked it up and threw it on its back, but my brain is still vibrating....i shy away from big bore cartridges with muzzle brakes now

If you hunt with another person, be aware that shooting a muzzle braked cannon is really bad for you, downright dangerous for them if they are beside you.

I have brakes on almost every rifle I shoot BUT will not hunt with one.
