Hi all.

I've just got my shiny (well satin) new X-Bolt Hunter FLD in .270 Win. I'm after advice on what factory ammo works best in it.

Based on little (or no) knowledge I have some Rem Core-Lokt 150Gr SP for breaking in but would like to start to zero and shoot the most accurate round (factory) that I can reasonably afford (so that I can order the custom clicker for my Burris C4 Plus).

Thoughts?

Unless you're going big game, stick with 130gr bullets. As for which ones - every rifle will be different. Before I started reloading 100% of the time, I was partial to Hornady SST's for hunting rifles. The more simply constructed bullets are usually more accurate, as a whole - at least in my experience. But until you try a few, you won't know your rifle and won't really be able to tell.

I was considering the Superformance 140 Gr GMX or SST. You think the 130 Gr is the ticket? Any thoughts SST vs GMX?

As stated before- You will have to try them. Every rifle reacts differently to different gr. and types of bullets. You will find the sweet spot.

You should just stick with WW Super X, Rem CoreLokts or Federal Power Shok to start with your new rifle. 130s or 150s will work fine on any deer you'll shoot at in NS.

Save your brass and try handloading down the road.

I have shot 270 for a few years in NB, I now shoot 140 but really there is not a lot of difference between the 130 or 140. Bullet construction is more of a factor. Having said that a cup & core 130 will take any deer we see in this neck of the woods. If you find a load that shoots well go with it!

I've been shooting a .270, here in NS, since 1989 (all the .30 caliber deer guys thought I was crazy, but the joke's on them:). As far as finding and shooting the most accurate factory ammo, so you can order a custom turret for your scope, that's entirely up to trying ammo, to see what groups the best out of YOUR rifle. Target shooting, I've had success with: Remington CorLokt 130 PSP and 150 PSP & SP, Federal blue box 150 SP and Premium 150 Nosler Partition. Presuming you will hunt deer with your setup, here in NS, where shots can be very close and / or in brush, I'll tell you this....I have had bad experiences with: Winchester Supreme (black box) 140 Silvertip and PMC 130 PSP. In both cases, I think I had made a poor choice for my hunting style, which was stillhunting survey lines and ATV trails, through thick stuff. These days, I sit and shoot via shooting lanes. All the best:)
