Browning X-Bolt... How come you don't see them in the long Range/Precision game?

Great light weight hunting rifles. My first pick. I've been shooting a stainless stalker 7mmwsm for big game for almost 10 years with no issues. If that gun goes boom there is a very good chance something died. Coyotes deer blackbear moose, its one i could never sell for sentimantal reasons. I added another in 270 this fall. I love them they fit me perfectly. They recoil very light for how light they are. If u want a rifle to dress up and make it tacticool then look at something else. If u want a hunting rifle that's nicer than the entry level stuff then look at an xbolt.

It's the stainless a bolts that are very difficult or impossible to rebarrel. The blued ones are doable and as far as I know so r all xbolt.

I am shooting a 6.5 Creedmoor Browning X-Bolt Target(its my brothers) its staying 1/2 MOA out to 1200 yards so far.I have nothing bad to say about it and really enjoy shooting it.
My brother has a a-bolt target in 300 WSM and its no slouch either.
A friend shoots a 308 eclipse and it is hard to beat some days also.
I have had a few brownings over the years and the only complaint I have is that there is no aftermarket stuff for them,I have heard a couple gunsmiths complain about them and how hard they are to rebarrel.
I have had quite a few rem 700's that I like also and they have all shot great to,but did have to bed a couple of them to get them to shoot, lots of aftermarket stuff for them and no complaints.
I think the browning is a great rifle right out of the box and have really never had to do anything to them, other than load development.
Theres my 2 cents worth.

1/2 moa at 1200 yards?? I'd like to see that

Off the shelf it does everything and does it well, no need to mess with it. Could ask same question and get same answer with Sako.

Have Rem, Wearherby, CZ, Ruger, T/C, Browning, Savage rifles (among others), all will shoot < 1 moa. The SS X-Bolt 300WSM is one of two go to hunting rifles, light, less recoil than would think, and easy to shoot accurately.

It's kind of like buying a STI or something German, a lot more likely to mod the STI to make what you want while the German car would run it hard the way it is and meet your expectations as such.

Have a A-Bolt stainless in 30-06. Good out of the box, I liked the BOSS system (you have and adjustable weight at the end of the barrel to tune in the harmonics). The factory muzlebrake is very efficient, the recoil is'nt an issue at all.

So I would guess that the almost non removable barrel makes them unpleasant rig for bench shooting, and repulsive for aftermarket parts builders.

They are good hunting rifle, no brainers, out-of-the-box accurate. Love also the smoothness of the action. Everything well made, my rifle came already bedded. A bit on the pricy side.

But not that i'm in long range activities, I wouldn't purchase another one... I would rather pay extra for a Tikka, or save a lot and buy a Savage!

My opinion!

There isn't much aftermarket for the Xbolt, and I've heard the same complaints about finding someone savvy with barrel swaps on them. Does anyone outside of Talley even make X-lock bases?

I recently picked an X-Bolt Eclipse Target in 6.5 CM, had a hell of a time locating a 20 MOA pic rail. Not the most accurate rifle so far, given the 28" HB and decent trigger. With 3 boxes through it I'm seeing an average of just over 0.75 MOA at 200 yards with a best group size of 1.31". Our 12" 625 yard gong has only two hits on it out of 10. I don't think it's me... the RPR hits every shot.

By contrast, the same scope mounted on a Howa .223 that cost half as much, shoots twice as good with only a 1-12"/20" barrel in a less than stellar hogue stock. Why don't you see more Howa rifles in the target scene?

To be fair I put only 2 types of 140-143 gr factory match ammo through it... maybe it just likes something else. Maybe the QC isn't as good as others, not sure.

I just finished ripping the original barrel off my 7mm rem Abolt II, and put a 26nosler RKS Gain twist on it. Shoots like a dream. I really wish there was more aftermarket stocks for it though!
