I've been shooting a Browning XT Trap for a couple years, that I bought used here on EE. The comb is starting to irritate me as it frequently loosens.
I've been Googling and found that this is a common problem. Many recommend replacing the hardware with aftermarket.
First though, I want to confirm this is factory hardware. I don't have any others to compare to. The tightening screw/rod is almost flush with the buttstock, and has a slot head, not and Allen head that it should have. I understand that many cut the Allen head off when installing a different buttplate. Perhaps the previous owner did this.
Can anyone confirm this is factory hardware? (pics below)
As for new hardware, what is recommended? Is the SPS hardware good, or is the Graco better? Is Graco worth the extra money?
In the mean time, I have taken the hardware out and removed a little material from the slit that provides the clamping force. I'm hoping this will allow the rod/screw to tighten better.
