hi, can i just buy a reamer and upgrade my 22lr to 22 mag, and adjust extractor of course. this is a small action martini # 13 rifle, thanks ,bryan.

I was told that they are not the same diameter barrel so even if the rechamber is possible it would drastically reduce the barrel life because you are forcing .224(22 mag)diameter bullets down the smaller diameter barrel of a 22LR.

They are a different diameter, but i can't swear to the reducing barrel life part .This is just what i was told(sounds reasonable) and i can't swear that it is true or not but i am sure one of the more knowledgable guys on here can give you the answer for sure.

Have a good night.

The .22LR are usually .222 bore some guys rechambered them to .22 Hornet but because of the tight fit and mild steel they didn't hold up.Harold

Yup the 22lr and 22wmr have different size bullets, I have miced them both but cannt remember the Dia of each BUT IF ! you search around some of the older Cooey single shot 22lrs have the larger Diameter barrels BUT remember too that the rate of twist differs to between the two !
BEST go buy a barrel made for the 22wmr, probably get one for the price of a good reamer look for replacment Ruger 10,22 tubes best bet!

Martini to .22 Magnum

I would not convert this rifle.

1. As already stated, the bore diameter is probably smaller. This would increase pressures. Although the Martini would probably handle this, it is quite possible that accuracy would suffer. After all, you want to hit something with it.

2. You would really decrease the value of a collectable rifle. Your rifle is probably worth more than the cost of buying a new rifle in .22 Mag. When you add in the cost of the reamer ( about $60-$80 ) and the labor to do the conversion, you are near the cost of a new .22 Magnum.

3. Reaming a chamber is not a matter of sticking the reamer in the barrel and turning it. You could easily ring the chamber or ruin the barrel if you don't have the proper equipment or skills.

4. The cartridge may be too long for good feeding in the Martini. It may stick and jam because of the sloped loading ramp on the breech block.
